Is your laptop running slow?

Is your laptop running slow? Sometimes, the reason might not be malware or storage issues — it could be unnecessary background services hogging your system’s resources. One quick registry tweak can help improve performance, especially on lower-end machines.

⚠️ Warning: Editing the Windows Registry can affect your system if done incorrectly. Follow the steps carefully and only proceed if you’re comfortable with system-level changes.

Step-by-Step Guide to Speed Up Your Laptop

✅ Step 1: Open the Run Command

Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

✅ Step 2: Type "regedit"

In the Run box, type: "regedit"

Then click OK or hit Enter.

✅ Step 3: Allow the Registry Editor

You’ll get a prompt from User Account Control (UAC) asking for permission to make changes. Click Yes to continue.

✅ Step 4: Navigate Through the Registry

Inside the Registry Editor, carefully follow this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>>>SYSTEM>>>ControlSet001>>>Services>>>NDU

To do this:

  • Click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

  • Then click "SYSTEM"

  • Next, click "ControlSet001"

  • Expand "Services"

  • Scroll down and click on "NDU"

✅ Step 5: Modify the NDU Service

Once you're in the NDU folder:

  • Find the item named Start on the right pane

  • Double-click on it

  • A box will pop up. Change the Value data from 2 to 4

  • Click OK

Changing this setting disables the Network Diagnostic Usage service, which can reduce unnecessary RAM usage.

🔁 Step 6: Restart Your Laptop

After making the change, restart your system to apply the new settings.

⚡ Why This Works

The NDU (Network Diagnostic Usage) service helps Windows track network data usage. However, on some systems — especially low-RAM laptops — it can consume more memory than necessary. Disabling it can improve performance and responsiveness.

🧠 Final Thoughts

This is just one tweak, but it can make a noticeable difference, especially if your laptop has limited resources. Remember, always create a backup or system restore point before making any changes to your registry.
